How does Karuna determine its advisory fees?
In the philanthropy advisory sector, fees depend on what firms are retained to do. Fees may vary, because we tailor our work to suit your priorities. We encourage potential clients to speak with a Karuna Advisor to determine a scope of work and fees.
What types of donors does Karuna work with?
We work with a broad range of donors around the world. Generally, our clients want to move ahead in their philanthropic journey. They may be new entrants to the philanthropy field, or experienced donors. Philanthropists who are interested in a confidential, rigorous, process of working through challenges, concerns, and fears about investing their funds regularly seek out Karuna. Or they may retain Karuna for other services such as grant making or representation. Sometimes, we advise donors who are unhappy with their investments and looking to change course. Other times, we work with donors who are close to making decisions about giving. They know a lot about the “defensive” aspects of philanthropy, and they may have even have a Donor Advised Fund, but they haven’t made any significant philanthropic investments. Karuna works with these donors to become active philanthropists
I’m just starting out in philanthropy, what can Karuna do for me?
First, congratulations! Developing the philanthropy muscle takes effort and patience. Luckily, you don’t have to do this alone. Karuna can walk you through specific do’s and don’ts, and we can help you to clarify, define, and select pathways for engagement.
Can I hire Karuna just to design a strategy or program, or to represent me?
Yes, you can retain Karuna for just one service, or for more services. In our experience, philanthropists, for a host of reasons, need varying levels of support. This is why Karuna offers a range of services, so you select only what you need.
Why can’t Karuna just tell me who to give to or where to give?
Our advisory work focuses on building your capabilities to make these decisions. It is our strong believe this approach will make you a successful philanthropist in the long run. Further, it prevents conflicts of interest. Karuna may make recommendations only when they fall within a service offered, or when we are specifically requested to do so.
